Running Economy: measures how efficiently you run. Parameters for the calculation are speed, heart rate and the proven Running Dynamics as well as the speed loss metric (optional HRM 600 required). The lower the value, the more energy-efficient your running movement.
Running Tolerance: evaluates the biomechanical load on your body when running. Especially when running downhill, the musculoskeletal system, i.e. bones, joints, tendons and ligaments, is subjected to high stress. Running Tolerance evaluates this strain and helps you to avoid overloading.
Maps in color: Whether on city streets or trails in the forest, the Forerunner 970 offers integrated maps in color that are now even more dynamic, intuitive and easy to follow.
Adaptive Garmin Coach training plans: Prepare for your next race, train for a milestone or simply improve your fitness with adaptive or pre-built Garmin Coach running, cycling, strength or triathlon training plans. To make the workouts even more personalized, selected plans are even adjusted based on performance and health data.
Training readiness: Training readiness combines your current training load with other health data such as recovery, sleep or stress and individually classifies your readiness for the next training session.
Telephony and voice assistance: Enjoy the convenience of making and receiving calls from your wrist - or use your smartphone's voice assistant to respond to text messages and more (when paired with your compatible iPhone® or Android™ smartphone). Specific functions can even be activated offline by voice command.
Morning report: The morning report shows you a summary of your sleep and HRV status as soon as you wake up and provides you with your daily training recommendation and weather information. You can even customize the report according to your preferences.
Evening report: The evening report shows you a summary of your day before you go to bed and gives you recommendations on how long you should sleep and the planned training and weather for the next day. You can even customize the report according to your preferences.
Daily training recommendations: Get workouts tailored specifically to you based on your data. These running recommendations vary in intensity and are adjusted after each run to take performance and recovery into account.

HRV Status: Record your heart rate variability during sleep and get exciting insights into your health, recovery and fitness thanks to a daily and 7-day average.
Garmin ECG app: The ECG app uses sensors to record the electrical signals that control the heartbeat. It analyzes the recording to detect signs of an irregular heart rhythm, known as atrial fibrillation.
Skin temperature: Wear your smartwatch while you sleep and see how your average skin temperature changes. These changes can be attributed to recent activity, sleep climate, possible illness and more.
Women's health: Track and store information on your menstrual cycle or pregnancy and also get information on exercise and nutrition. Track your skin temperature while you sleep to get better period predictions and calculations for the days after ovulation.
Run time prediction: Get a calculation of your potential pace for a 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon if you were to run the distance today.
Race timeprediction: The race time prediction shows you the time and pace you could run at the race if you continue training until the race day you entered.
Running Dynamics on your wrist: Your smartwatch measures important running efficiency data such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time and much more.
Speed loss on ground contact: The speed loss on ground contact metric measures how much you slow down when you put your foot down. Good runners lose little speed and can quickly convert the movement back into a forward motion (optional HRM 600 required).
Heart rate measurement on the wrist: Your heart rate is recorded regularly and helps you to assess how hard you are training during activities.
Multisport workouts: Create customized pairings to prepare for your next triathlon or multisport event. Combine two or more sports and let your smartwatch guide you through your training.
